God of Variety

Last night while reading a devotional about seeing God in America, the writer wrote about the San Diego Zoo and how the zoo has over 4,000 species of animals. The writer also mentioned how as humans, we are not so diverse in our approach to life. We stick to our patterns, routines, and the like, never really branching out from what seems comfortable.

God, however is not The God of patterns and routines. While His love and presence are steadfast and will not change while we are on this earth, His methods for answering our prayers and providing our needs do not follow a pattern. He is The God of diversity and variety, just look at His creation. He made the honey bee and the elephant, the goldfish and the dinosaur, the inch worm and the grizzly bear. He made the desert and rain forest, the plains and the mountains.

Not only did He create things with such diversity, but His methods for doing so do not follow what we would think. He made the giant Redwood tree to reproduce from a seed as small as that of a tomato seed, yet He made the much smaller coconut/palm tree to reproduce from seeds that are about 12” long and weigh between 30 and 40 pounds. God’s ways are not our ways and God’s thoughts are not our thoughts and therefore, we cannot and should not try to put Him in our box of expectations.

We should not expect that we know how God will answer our prayers or provide our needs, because a God that has the creativity to create the slow snail and the speedy cheetah is not a God of limits, but rather a God of limitless power, ability, creativity and love for us, His prize creation! If you pray for friendship, it might show up in that one person you never really liked or understood, but God knows what He is doing. If you pray for money to pay the electric bill, it might show up as a raise in pay, an extra shift or a random gift from an anonymous source.
You...just...never...know...how...God...will...answer...The only thing you can know is that He WILL answer in His way and His tyme...and trust me His tyme is MUCH better than ours!
